Today was the start of the new school year for Katherine and Peter. Katherine is a senior, yay! It's actually a little freaky that my oldest child is in her last year of school. She is still working on finalizing her course schedule. She was put in a creative writing class, which she did not register for or even list as an alternate. The first class today confirmed what she suspected about the class (you guessed it, lots of writing), so she's trying to ditch it for a less intense elective experience, or at least something she can get honors credit for. The other classes she has are European history, statistics, and "lifetime sports", which is basically bowling, tennis, golf, etc.
Peter is taking algebra, earth science, civics and economics, and something called business and personal finance. He is bummed because he wanted a phys ed elective, not business. He had listed the business course as an alternate last spring when he registered, though, so I figure he can't be too surprised that he got it.
I don't have a picture of them. When Emily has her first day of kindergarten, I'll take a group pic of all three of them.

Surgery yesterday, and other stuff
I had my minor outpatient procedure yesterday (yep, folks, this baby making factory has shut down for good...) I've been home and resting this afternoon and today. I'm not supposed to lift anything heavier than 15 pounds. Of course, fatty Sam is more than 15 pounds, so Craig has been doing a lot of baby care today. Sam is sleeping in my lap at the moment, though, so if there are any typos in this post, that's why.

We took this picture of Dylan a couple of days ago. Doesn't he look proud of himself?
This was from this morning...

Jessica and Phillip are visiting this afternoon. They've brought their pet bunny Bubble with them. Here's a picture of Emily and Jessica with Bubble (with our oh so organized pantry in the background, sheesh...)

Not too long...
It's almost time for school to start. Katherine and Peter went to their school today to meet their teachers and locate all their classrooms. Katherine looked for her assigned parking spot and was quite pleased with its location. Last year her parking spot was literally the farthest one from the school. This year she is towards the front.
Katherine decided not to play school golf this year. She wants to get an afterschool job. She has turned in one job application, but was not called back for an interview. I'm encouraging her to call them and follow up.
I read a book today. I actually started it last night, and finished it today. Considering that I have an infant, a toddler, and a 5 year old at home, that has to be some kind of speed record. The book, Skeletons At the Feast, by Chris Bohjalian, was just that good.
I'm trying to get a nice picture of Katherine and Peter together, but they will need to be home (and awake) at the same time first. Peter is out playing baseball tonight.
David is here tonight. During the school year, he usually comes on Friday. But since it's summer, we've gotten to see more of him. He's asleep on the sofa at the moment, though. Craig is stuck late at work. Dylan is in bed, so all in all it's pretty quiet at the moment. Sam's awake, though. I can't wait until I can get them both to sleep at the same time. Sam was awake last night until 1:30. Very not cool...

Sam's 2 month checkup
Sam went for his 2 month checkup today. He is doing very well. Actually, he's quite the chubby. His weight is 15 pounds, 4 ounces. He's 24 inches long, and his head circumference is 41 centimeters (why do they measure the head in centimeters and everything else in inches???)
He had 5 vaccinations, which he did well with, minimal crying. So far he's not cranky, either. (Am I bad mom for hoping that perhaps he will take an extra long nap this afternoon, to "sleep it off"?)

Aunt Ruth stayed...
Lexie's breathing improved, so Aunt Ruth decided to stay for the full visit. Here's a picture I took of them tonight.
Ruth and I went to the mall this evening with Emily, Dylan and Sam. Dylan and Emily enjoy the play area there. We also checked out a furniture store that looked amazingly like a gigantic version of Ruth's home, it mirrored her tastes so closely. Then we met up with Craig outside of the cellphone store- Craig finally has a new cellphone, yay! His old one was literally falling apart.
After getting home, Ruth took Katherine and Peter and went back to the mall, LOL. She bought a couple of SAT prep books for Katherine. Peter had a gift card from his birthday to spend. He used it to buy a game guide for one of the new games he has (well, it's not literature, but I guess it's reading...)
Tomorrow morning, Ruth is leaving to go back home again. We've all had such a good visit. Safe travels home, Aunt Ruth!

Experimenting to see if this will work...
I'm trying to see if I can upload a video clip. This one is taken from Jessica's birthday party. Craig's parents were visiting, too. David and Peter are playing Guitar Hero, and Dylan is "dancing"...
Aunt Ruth is visiting
Aunt Ruth is visiting this weekend. She came for Peter's birthday and for Jennifer's baby shower. (More about the baby shower- it was yesterday at Jennifer's friend Ginny's house. I think about 20 people came, including Ruth, Sally, and Debbie from out of town. Jennifer, it was discovered, is not really very many toilet paper sheets wide. Aunt Sally won a photo album for guessing this correctly. Jennifer received many lovely gifts, especially Winnie the Pooh themed clothing and bedroom items. A good time was had by all...)
Ruth is supposed to stay until Tuesday. Unfortunately, her dog Lexie is not feeling well, so Ruth may need to go home early to take him to the vet. I'll post a Lexie update later as more becomes known...

Happy Birthday, Peter!
Today is Peter's birthday. He went to the water park with David, Katherine, Emily, and his dad. Birthday dinner was fettucini alfredo, macaroni and cheese, salad, rolls, and a couple of rotisserie chickens thrown in for good measure.
I'll post a birthday picture, as soon as I get the pics off of the camera.
Happy Birthday, Peter! I hope it was a good one...

First Post
There always has to be a first post. And it's usually awkward (more awkward even than starting a sentence with "And", which we all know shouldn't be done.) Because, of course, nothing that I might write about today actually started today. So I guess I'll just start with today, and anyone who knows me (which is anyone who might actually be reading this) can fill in the background information.
The theme for today's entry is "Dylan can climb anything". He just learned how to climb onto my bed without props, which takes away Sam's last nap refuge. I also pried Dylan off of my dresser, which he was trying to scale. The pantry is also his playground. I found a bottle of balsamic vinegar on my bedroom floor this afternoon, and can only assume that Dylan is the culprit.
Guess I'm off to Babies R Us for more childproofing supplies.
